Conservation

An important concept in science is conservation. Check a science book and a dictionary for definitions of conservation. Using the newspaper, find at least three examples of conservation in action. Summarise what the newspaper items say in relation to conservation. Compare your findings with someone else.

Environment

  • People don’t always change their environment. Sometimes it affects them and makes those people change. In the newspaper, look for evidence of people being shaped or influenced by the environment. Make a list of your examples. Decide which are temporary (T) changes and which are permanent (P) changes. Mark each change you listed with a T or a P.

  • New industries being built in an area often has implications for the surrounding environment. Ask students to keep any articles about industries being built and ask them to predict the ecological implications which could occur as a consequence of the industries being built.
