Math Vocabulary
  • Our lives entail memorising all sorts of numbers; home and office phone numbers, social security numbers, bank account pin numbers, addresses and postcodes. Use newspapers to increase student awareness of the large amount of numbers that pervade our lives. Have students circle and read aloud all the numbers found on the front page of their newspaper.
  • Have students locate and clip money-related words such as savings, interest, income, tax and per cent. Have them look for words that are measures but have no specific size, such as many, gigantic, lowest price, family size, best deal and net worth. In small groups have students discuss what these terms mean to them.
